FAQ
CORE CONCEPT
What is this? Why does it exist? How is it different?
MYMCO is a people-first, compatibility-driven app that helps mountaineers, hikers, and outdoor lovers find the right partners for weekend trips, seasonal climbs, and future expeditions. We focus on long-term, trusted connections, not just who’s free.
Most platforms today are built on trip-based logic: people make a post, post a trip, others reply, and the main filter becomes who is free at the same time. That can lead to mismatches, shallow information, last-minute cancellations, and partners who may not share your skills, pace, or goals.
MYMCO flips this completely. We’re people-first, not trip-first.
Instead of endless trip boards, groups, and chats, MYMCO focuses on helping you:
- See who people really are behind the profile
- Understand their skills, goals, pace, and experience
- Build a trusted network of compatible partners
- Form aligned teams before stepping onto a mountain
- Avoid mismatches that impact safety, success rate, or enjoyment
Many climbers feel uncomfortable posting constantly in groups or chasing strangers who reply with little transparency. We’re building a place where you can connect with people you genuinely fit with – people you share goals, attitudes, and energy with.
Over time, this lets you grow your own mountain network worldwide. When you go to the Alps, the US, Nepal, or elsewhere, you already know who your people are.
We’re also developing features to reduce inflated profiles or missing information, ensuring transparency, honesty, and safer partner selection.
MYMCO isn’t just another place to find a climbing buddy.
It’s a shift from availability-based matching to compatibility-driven connections and that changes everything.
The first MVP (minimum viable product) version focuses on mountaineering for compatibility matching, as it is a vertical with the highest stakes and risks.
But this is just the beginning – hiking and ski touring will follow next within December 2026, with additional mountain sports after that.
You can still create your profile today, even if you’re not a mountaineer.
Too many mountain teams are built on availability, not alignment, which leads to mismatches, slowdowns, safety concerns, and uncomfortable or disappointing climbs.
We built MYMCO so that you don’t have to discover misalignments on the mountain. Instead you can discover compatibility before you go.
By matching on skills, pace, experience, goals, and stamina, the app helps you form trusted, well-aligned teams rather than random pairings. That way, you can focus on the climb, not managing mismatches.
MYMCO uses a familiar, matching-style interface because it makes the app easy to learn and quick to navigate. Familiar design means faster onboarding – people instinctively understand how to browse profiles without needing instructions.
However, the purpose behind this design is completely different.
MYMCO functions much more like a sports or networking app. It removes the grind of constant searching and outreach, endless group posts by automating partner matching in a way that’s personal, intuitive, and purpose-built for mountain sports.
Matches are based on skills, goals, grades, experience, fitness, availability, location plans, and trust signals – not romance or appearance. Swiping is simply an easy way to move back and forth between profiles, and you can revisit anyone at any time. So you will get high-quality, compatibility-ranked mountain partner suggestions designed for safer, better-aligned trips.
In conclusion, we have intentionally borrowed the best parts of intuitive app design, not the dating mechanics, and applied them to the mountain community so you spend less time learning a new platform and more time finding people you actually fit with.
But of course… if someone ends up finding not only their dream expedition team, but also a romantic partner along the way, we’ll count that as a bonus, not the purpose.
PROFILE, MATCHING, DISCOVERY
How do profiles & matching actually function?
Our algorithm considers multiple factors to determine compatibility, including:
- main and secondary activities
- goals and experience level
- grades
- fitness level
- goals
- plans and availability
- wishlist and aspirations
- languages
- your climbing portfolio
You’re not only connected with people who share your availability, but with people you’re compatible with.
That said, the algorithm remains a core focus for us, and we’re continuously refining and expanding it. While it doesn’t calculate every profile parameter just yet, we’re working to make it increasingly comprehensive. That is one of our biggest priorities.
Reliability on MYMCO shows how complete someone’s profile is.
The more information a user has filled in (experience, goals, grades, fitness level, availability, etc.), the higher their Reliability score.
Why this matters:
– A higher Reliability score means the compatibility percentage is more accurate, because the algorithm has more data to work with.
– A lower score simply means the person hasn’t added enough information yet, so the compatibility result may be less precise.
In short, Reliability helps you understand how much you can trust the match quality, based on how fully the other person has completed their profile.
Yes! MYMCO is designed for all levels. Whether you’re planning your first peak or preparing for a technical climb, the algorithm pairs you with people whose skills and goals align with yours.
Yes! You can update your profile at any time and your suggestions will automatically adjust based on your new preferences.
In fact, we recommend keeping your profile up to date. Your skills, goals, fitness, and plans evolve and when you update your profile, your matches adapt with you.
The more you share, the better and more accurate the recommendations we can give you.
Yes, MYMCO works anywhere in the world. The app is global by default, so when you create your profile, you can be matched with people from any region.
However, when you add a target location in the “Currently Planning” section, it functions almost like a soft filter. It doesn’t remove anyone from your suggestions, but it prioritizes people who are also planning climbs or trips in the same area. Think of it as a “mountain passport” – when you change your planned location, your recommendations adapt to show the most relevant partners first, while still allowing you to browse everyone else.
More regional features and location-based improvements will be added over time.
Because the MVP was built around mountaineering first.
Once we add hiking and ski touring etc, each vertical will have its own relevant fields and parameters.
MYMCO is designed so you never have to scroll through thousands of profiles. Your best suggestions are always shown in order of compatibility, not volume.
People with similar experience, goals, fitness, and “Currently Planning” locations automatically appear at the top. As the community grows, we’ll also add advanced filters so you can narrow your search even further.
Even at scale, MYMCO won’t feel overwhelming – it will always surface the right people first, not everyone available.
HOW TO USE THE APP DAY-TO-DAY
What can you actually do in the app?
Not at all. It’s the opposite.
The goal is to help you build your own mountain network – partners you can trust and return to, instead of scrolling through strangers every time you plan a trip.
Yes. You can join to connect with like-minded people, prepare for future trips, explore your compatibility suggestions, and grow your network.
After you connect, you can start a 1:1 chat to discuss plans, share ideas, compare goals, or get to know each other better. You can also use Trip Notes to begin outlining potential routes or future climbs together.
Right now, MYMCO focuses on building strong individual connections first.
Group chat, team tools, and more collaborative features will be added later to make planning even easier. This is only the starting point, we’re expanding quickly after launch.
MYMCO is intentionally not a trip board – we focus on people first, not posts.
If you have a trip in mind, you can adjust your “Currently Planning” section, and the app will prioritise people who are planning something similar and who are compatible with your goals, skills, and timeframe.
Right now, you can add one planned trip at a time, and you can change it anytime – your suggestions will adapt instantly.
We’re working on allowing multiple planned trips on your profile so you can prepare for several climbs or seasons at once.
The idea is simple: instead of broadcasting trips to strangers, MYMCO helps you find the right people first – people you actually click with and can trust to plan the trip together.
Group chat isn’t included in the first release (20.11.25), but it’s one of the very next features we’re adding.
For now, you can chat individually with another person, and we’re actively working on expanding this so teams can plan, coordinate, and stay connected in one place.
Trip Notes are a simple way to keep all important planning details in one place without losing them inside a long chat.
In regular chats, important decisions often get buried under messages. You have to scroll, search, or pin things constantly, and it becomes messy fast. Trip Notes solve that.
When you’re planning a climb with someone in a MYMCO chat, anyone in the conversation can create a Trip Note for key information, such as:
- agreed route
- dates/timing
- gear list
- flights/transportation
- accommodation
- weather updates
- meeting points
- safety notes
- “to-do” items
Each note stays organized and easy to find, so nothing gets lost, even if the chat is active.
Right now, Trip Notes are manual entries you add inside a chat. In the future, we’ll introduce trip templates that make it even easier to structure all your planning and share it with others outside the group when needed.
Trip Notes make early planning smoother, clearer, and far more organized, especially when coordinating with multiple people.
For now, the MVP version is free to join. Later versions will include optional premium features, but the basic partner-connecting experience will always stay accessible.
SAFETY, ROADMAP, FEEDBACK
Safety is built into the platform:
- profile verification
- experience and grade indicators
- reporting tools
- compatibility-based matching (reducing risky mismatches)
- the ability to disconnect from users
PS! We are continuously expanding our safety features and there’s more to come.
Yes and this is something we take very seriously. Two of MYMCO’s founders are women, and safety was one of the core reasons this app was created in the first place. Traditional group posts and open social platforms often lead to inappropriate messages, unclear intentions, and unwanted attention. Many women simply don’t feel safe or comfortable finding partners that way.
MYMCO is built to change that.
The app gives you full control over who you interact with. You see someone’s skills, goals, experience, and plans before deciding whether to connect, not the other way around. If someone behaves inappropriately, you can disconnect instantly and report the profile.
Because the experience is people-first and compatibility-driven, women and solo climbers aren’t exposed to random messages; they choose who to trust, when to engage, and who to keep out of their space.
In many ways, MYMCO is being built from a female perspective, prioritising clarity, transparency, and safety at every step, so your focus can stay on the mountains, not managing uncomfortable interactions.
Absolutely. Some features currently in development are:
- group chat
- vertical-specific profiles (hiking, ski touring, climbing, etc.)
- improvements to algorithm
- multi-trip planning
- verification and safety tools
You’ll see improvements weekly as we evolve the app.
We would love to hear from you! Send feedback (bugs, feature requests, improvements etc) directly via the app or email us at help@mymcoapp.com
